What has Changed 2024
In November 2024, the Gatsby Foundation updated it’s benchmarks to reflect changes in society and how the ‘best outcomes’ have been achieved.
The Benchmark Guidance used to relate to STEM subjects, the Criteria for Schools now reads as:
“Every year, in every subject, every pupil should have opportunities to learn how the knowledge and skills developed in that subject helps people to gain entry to, and be more effective workers within, a wide range of careers.
Careers should form part of the school’s ongoing staff development programme for teachers and all staff who support pupils.”
-Giving students a “why” can be the real difference between a good lesson and a great lesson!

Linking curriculum learning to careers
All teachers should link curriculum learning with careers and draw connections from their subject areas to different career paths. You can get ideas and support on this from Mrs Wilkinson and Jane Pritchard the Enterprise Adviser. For example, STEM subject teachers should highlight the relevance of STEM subjects for a wide range of future career paths.
