Personal Development

As a school our focus is to inspire a life-long love for learning that will enable students to have a rich understanding of the context of their lives and communities as well as their future. We want to empower learners to overcome barriers through determination and hard work and to encourage students to aspire to be the person they desire to be whilst showing character and resourcefulness.  The intent of the Personal Development curriculum is to educate our students to make informed choices in their lives in order to keep themselves healthy and safe, and to develop life skills, wider knowledge and understanding of a diversity of cultures and perspectives which will enable them to make a positive contribution to the wider community.

All students attend weekly assemblies which are focused on the theme of the week and study a broad academic curriculum that promotes personal development. Assemblies also encourage community and a sense of loyalty to the year of which they are part. Assemblies help to supplement the tutor time programme, providing a time where students can engage and enquire in a different context with the theme of the week. The theme of the week is delivered in AM tutor time weekly by the tutor and gives students an opportunity to critically engage with social, cultural, religious and moral content giving context to global events and promoting Fundamental British Values.

The school also has an active Student Senate where students are democratically elected by their peers. This is a platform for student voice and is intended as a key cog in the school wheel that gives student stakeholders a vehicle for engagement with school leaders.
