Curriculum Aims & Structure
Lakelands Academy is a highly aspirational school
LAKELANDS CURRICULUM VISION
We believe in a set of core principles, which permeate our curriculum, and are a key part of our everyday language:
Lifelong Learning | We encourage our students to become independent and self-motivated to be able to make the most of life’s learning journey |
Aspiration to succeed | We want our students to aim high, develop a vision for their future and build resilience in the face of challenges |
Knowledge building | We help our students make the most of their brains’ amazing capacity to absorb and retain knowledge, to equip them with the cultural capital to live a rich, fulfilling life |
Empathy for others | We encourage our students to be ‘Smart, Safe, Responsible and Kind’, and grow to be good citizens who respect others, follow society’s laws and participate in society |
Our aim is to provide a diverse, inclusive, challenging and inspiring curriculum for the students of Lakelands, our core purpose to develop well-rounded, confident young people, with the integrity, resilience and high aspirations to thrive in the future.
The curriculum is designed to provide them with the core knowledge they need to succeed in education, and to become successful members of society. We encourage them to be curious and open-minded, and develop the necessary critical, creative and problem-solving skills to be able to make a difference in their future lives.
All students benefit from a culturally enriching curriculum that has depth, breadth, adaptivity and regular revisiting of knowledge to give them the confidence to succeed. It is a curriculum designed to encourage learners to step outside their comfort zone and embrace challenge. By drawing on the best that’s been thought, said and done in each subject, we hope that our curriculum enables our young people to appreciate and participate in the full richness of the human experience.
In accordance with the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014, the curriculum is designed and delivered to meet the needs of all students, including those with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
We reinforce our core values in every aspect of academy life.
These core values are encapsulated in the question:
Is it SMART, SAFE, RESPONSIBLE and KIND?
They are values of respect, tolerance, compassion and personal responsibility.
